Chapter 24: Finding Our Niche and Breaking into New Markets

Posted by admin on September 16th, 2010 | 16 Comments »

We had a really enjoyable show up in Boston last weekend.  It was our first time in the Boston music scene and we were excited to play for our first time up by Fenway Park at a venue called Copperfields.  It’s rare to meet club soundmen who seem to give two shits about the bands playing on the bill for a particular evening.  We’ve had luck at a couple places…Harrisburg, Nectars, and now Copperfields.  The soundman at Copperfields was incredibly supportive, helpful and enthusiastic about our music.  When describing it, he said he didn’t know how to categorize or describe it except for the fact that he loved it and it was awesome.  This is what we LOVE to hear. However it makes me think…a new fan who is not able to categorize our sound…personally I think this is a good thing because it means we are original, but in a world where everybody wants to put things in boxes…does this help us build a niche for ourselves or make it harder.

Personally I think it helps us CREATE a niche for ourselves rather than try to fit into a previous or oversaturated niche but I would love to hear your feedback.  How would you describe our music?

We have a show in Connecticut tomorrow at Teen Center up in Woodbridge CT.  Will let you know how it goes…

Stay tuned…
